'which me' explores the relationship between the image and reality and the nature of reality.
The audience views the work from outside of the box. However, by leaning into the box an endless multiplication of images is encountered. As only one person at a time can view the work there is an intimacy of engagement.
There is a simultaneous experience of the image and the real through presentation of the figures along with the still image of them, as well as reflections of both. The multiplication of images and viewing in mirrors, and possibly catching sight of themselves, may make the viewer aware of the act of looking, of their own ‘gaze’, giving a heightened consciousness of perception. Dissonance between the real and the image reveals that the appearance of reflection is an illusion.
The presentation of different versions of the same figure suggests the different ways we present ourselves as well as how we change. The framed transparent screen may suggest a mirror that has had its function subverted – being transparent and therefore not reflecting reality to the subject’s gaze.
